We apologise for the click-baity title, but could it really be the case? LEGO will be celebrating 20 years of LEGO Star Wars since their first introduction of LEGO Toys released back in 1999. This eBay listing showed up recently [Jan 2019] tagged with a USD $10,000 Buy-It-Now price. It shows the lightsaber scene between Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker.
The description says: "Original 1999 Toy Fair Announcement with Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker given out to the press announcing the launch of the Star Wars Line of LEGO toys. This is the first Star Wars item ever handed out to people outside of LEGO corp" and listed by UncleSamsAntiques/USA. You can find the listing here.
The text on the box surely gives the impression that is indeed the first Launch of Star Wars LEGO which was at the 1999 American International Toy Fair, Feburary 8-10th.
The box isn't in perfect condition and looks to be a little weathered over the years.
At the bottom of the box, we see the first ever X-Wing (7140). What we do notice is that it's not the stock image that we've seen used on the 7140 box art. It also shows a very weird angle of the S-Foils being opened at the top, but not at the bottom. In the background we see a Tie Fighter from the 7150 Tie Fighter & Y-Wing Set.
X-Wing Fighter and Tie Fighter Sets for reference.
Well for 2019, we definitely can't wait to see what's going to be the surprises for 20 years in celebration! You can see from the logo that they've used the same marketing image but just made it into a simple colored silver logo.
2019 logo on the left, and 1999 release on the right.
