Where LEGO got their inspiration for the Collectible Minifigures CMF Series 19 [Part 1]

Updated: Aug 13, 2019

It’s been a while since we had our inspiration showcase of where LEGO got their inspiration for the Collectible Minifigures. Some of us like to believe that the designers in Billund wake up one morning exactly knowing what to do for the next LEGO Collectible Minifigure Series (CMF) - I honestly don’t. So I try to imagine what they were thinking of and how were they inspired. Maybe they had someone in mind? Maybe they just googled just like what I'm gonna do! If you missed out CMF 17 Inspiration series , remember to check it out. Else, let's head on way! (Note: At time of writing, the official names of the minifigures are not revealed yet, so I call them as I see them!)

Dog Walker

So, I figured that there are no famous female dog walkers to be inspired with. So, I did a search for "celebrity dog walkers in overalls", which describes what I see as-is. Guess who turned up! Emily Ratajkowski and Naomi Watts walking their dogs! I must admit, Emily's little furry one looks almost like The LEGO dog!

Some of you may start to be picky and say it's not all good, there's no shovel nor cap. I Googled harder and found the original image with caps and shovels. . It think that nails it down pretty well - don't you think so?

Monkey King

The Monkey King a.k.a Sun Wukong is from the Chinese classical novel, Journey to the West and has spanned a wide popular culture from stories and movie adaptations both live action and animated. It's tough to find the exact character that it was modelled after, so I'm just going to pick a few cool looking ones!

How about some jaw dropping LEGO Monkey King? This amazing creation is by The Deathly Halliwell.

Flamingo Lady

There are somethings you can never be prepared for, and that's when googling for Grandma Flamingo. A disturbing large number of T-Shirts with Grammingo turns up! I kid you not! Did I miss a cultural phenomenon somewhere along the way?

I can guess everyone wants their gramma to stand out and be beautiful like a flamingo? Someone please explain!!!

And just because the internet is weird, I'll leave this here as it came up during my search for Flamingo Grandmas. I won't blame you if you need one of these. Click on the image to buy one for your loved one.

Football / Rugby Player

I'm clearly confused here - though I'm not an expert... American Football players wear helmets, and Rugby teams don't. So why is he holding a rugby ball? Perhaps it is to appease to both sides of the pond? Nevertheless, I'm going to call it Rugby and the South African team! This is the "Home" and "Away" team uniform designed by Nike. LEGO couldn't color them Yellow, else we'd be getting naked Rugby players. Not a good thing!

There you have it !! Agree? Disagree? Read on for Part 2 of the instalment! For now, drop your opinion and thoughts! But most importantly, if you enjoyed this, perhaps take a look at our Collectible Minifigure Series 17 Inspiration feature in four parts Part 1, Part 2, Part 3, Part 4
